Clan Praise(s)

  • The surname is derived from our ancestoral place of origin in Swaziland kwa Mahambane, this family is predominant in the Eastern Cape, Ngqushwa Municipal area. Marambana as the Xhosas referred to him had two sons uBani no Ngqo in the great house and his other sons eQadini were Vokwana, Mdabula, Ndungane and Gwengula. uVokwana went on to reside eMxhelo(Alice District), the rest are still around Peddie, Ngqushhwa Municipality. Our family was at the hospitality of the Xhosas pre and post Mfecane era, we had cattle with no land and the Xhosas had land without cattle, thus uku Mfenguza was coined and bestowed among the displaced tribes. Most clans in the EC are not Xhosa by origin but were assimilated into the Xhosa culture and to name a few, amaZizi, amaBhele, ooRadebe, Sithole/Magazi, Mntambo etc
